The talk highlights the influences and themes that gave shape to a lifetime of painting. Afaf Zurayk discusses concerns, interests and experiences that mold her artistic choices and attitudes. Illustrating her talk with a selection of images spanning her artistic formation and development, Afaf explores the role of both creative imagination and suspension of judgment as crucial guides in the making of art.
Born in Beirut, Lebanon in 1948, Afaf Zurayk is an artist as well as an art educator. She has published three books in addition to her many solo exhibitions both in Beirut and Washington DC. Inspired and guided by both music and poetry, Zurayk in her artwork probes emotional experiences through turbulence to acceptance.
