The Profile of the Talk
Jazz musicians rely on beautiful songs to improvise and develop. Such songs mostly come from the great musicals and by great composers: Gershwin, Porter, Berlin, Mercer . . . This song is by Johnny Green with lyrics by Edward Heyman, Robert Sour and Frank Eyton. For some reason you will find out during the talk, this song captured the body and soul of jazz performers. Sadly, Green did not write others that were equally prominent.
The talk will run through 10 or more version of this great song showing its shape and form through different schools and interpretations.

To enjoy the various jazz renditions, it would be good to listen to a "pure" non-jazz version by Carly Simon:

Akram Najjar is a graduate of AUB in Physics and Mathematics (1966). By 1969, he completed a degree in Electronic Engineering in University of Hertfordshire, UK. His professional life was spent in Information Technology and organizational management. He spent a lot of time on reengineering business and public sector processes.
When Akram was 14, he chanced upon an evening program that presented one Jazz great at a time. He was hooked in Jazz in parallel with his love for Classical music. In our earlier Season 3 and 4, he gave 2 workshops: "For the Love of Jazz" and "Ten Great Jazz Songs".
