The second part (which will be presented in a few weeks) will address its role and significance in jazz. Both parts will of necessity omit much that can be said about the instrument such as its role in folk and military contexts. But the intention is to constitute a brief reminder of how much richer compositions and orchestrations of all types have become on account of the range and richness of its sound.
