Profile of the Talk

The talk explores how intellectuals developed the foundations of a “Lebanist” idea in the 19th and early 20th century It examines the place this idea occupied in the formation of Greater Lebanon in 1920, and traces the process of the emergence of Lebanese nationalism.



Charles al-Hayek
Charles al-Hayek is a history instructor and consultant. He is the founder of Heritage & Roots, a platform that aims to bring the Middle East and Lebanese history and cultural heritage to the broader public in enticing and engaging means.

For the past 19 years, he has been working on various history and heritage-related projects, ranging from historical consultation, culinary history, and the creation and implementation of heritage educational trails and workshops.

He is currently doing an MA in Arab and Middle East History at the CAMES-AUB.
